Staff Spotlight: Jessica Nelson

Q: What is your role at Circa and how have your previous professional experiences prepared you for a career in real estate?

A: I started working as Circa’s Marketing Coordinator in February of 2020, just weeks before everything turned upside down and lives came to an abrupt stop. I received a month of training and was then sent to work from home because of the Covid-related office closures.

My previous role as an assistant administrator with another real estate company made the transition into this role extremely easy. My background in photography fit right into this marketing role, from photoshopping pillows upright that had fallen down during photo shoots, to helping out with the Matterport tours, to now expanding my knowledge of photography into videography skills.

Q: What do you love about working in the real estate industry?

A: I have been watching HGTV since I was young. From Trading Spaces, to yelling at the television with Ty Pennington “MOVE THAT BUS!”, I have been obsessed with homes for as long as I can remember. I remember playing the computer game, The Sims, when I was younger and not wanting to actually play, but just wanting to build and decorate the homes.

My favorite part of working in the real estate industry is seeing all the amazing homes and how each one is so different and so unique. I love walking through a home while doing the Matterport or listing video and just thinking of all the wonderful memories that come with each home and all the love the family put into it to make it theirs. Visualizing it, as if it were my next house and how I would make it feel like a home. Whether that be big projects, or just with some new paint and decor. Or getting ideas and inspiration to bring into my home.

Q: Are you excited to start incorporating your videography skills into the Circa Marketing suite?

A: I loved going to school for Photography and Advertising. I remember being so excited to do every project. I wanted to be the best and wanted my instructors and peers to love the photos I took. After I graduated college I felt like I lost that excitement and fire to learn something new again, until Circa gave me the opportunity to learn how to do real estate videos for them. Suddenly that fire was back.

I couldn’t wait to show everyone this brand new skill that I have not only learned, but taught myself how to do. Long story short, I am beyond excited to start incorporating video into the Circa Marketing suite. I think this is a unique service to offer for the agents to showcase their listings.

Q: In your opinion, how is Circa’s approach to marketing better than the competition?

A: ALL IN-HOUSE MARKETING! We all work as one big team to help showcase our listings to their highest potential. Our Brand Manager, David, walks through each home to prepare the seller to list their home. Then every listing gets professionally photographed and scanned for a 3D tour with the Matterport camera. A marketing box is created with flyers, disclosures, special feature cards, and more. Finally, all the marketing materials are brought to that listing to be presented throughout the home. The Marketing Team wants every listing to be shown the best way it can be shown! With marketing throughout the home, being highlighted on multiple social media pages, and having each listing with its own website you could say we put our all into every listing.

Q: What’s your favorite thing about working for Circa?

A: Circa is so different from all the other real estate companies I have worked for or visited. They are constantly changing and striving to be the first to do the next big thing. And I love that! I love that I work for a place that is constantly working towards being the best and is okay with trying new things that haven’t been done yet. I have been here for a little over a year and we have launched a new website, new app, Buyer Matterport services, listing videos, and so much more. I can’t wait to see what 2022 has to offer for this company.

Q: What’s your favorite way to spend a weekend in St. Louis?

A: I’m not from Saint Louis, so this is a hard one for me. I still use my GPS to get literally everywhere. I have been here for almost five years now, but because I have moved from Saint Charles to Florissant, to Carondelet, to now owning a home in Pacific, I feel like I experience new, exciting things all the time!

I love being outdoors near the water, so a typical weekend for me is spending the day out on the river floating with friends, climbing rocks at Johnson Shut-Ins, or horseback riding at Kraus Farm. Later in the evening, I love spending my time in Soulard hopping in and out of all the restaurants and bars they have. From the crowd favorites, McGurk’s, to the little hole in the wall bar, Cat’s Meow, that my friends and I have come to love (you have to try the Catnip shot!). To later jumping on a Lime scooter and riding up and down the streets admiring this historic area.
